NewsDubai issued a ban on e-scooters to ensure passenger safety, within Metro and Trams as of March 1. It is forbidden for commuters to bring their last-mile transportation into the facilities, according to a statement made by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) on Thursday, February 29.
"To ensure your safety and the safety of others, the use of e-scooters inside Dubai Metro and Dubai Tram will be prohibited, starting Friday, March 1," the transit authority tweeted. RTA utilised the #YourSafetyOurPriority hashtag.
Authorities unveiled a robot earlier on Thursday that is capable of identifying infractions made by riders of electric scooters and bicycles. The robot will begin testing in March. Its duties include monitoring and identifying infractions.
Services at the passive metro station were delayed for about an hour last month due to the discovery of smoke coming from an electric scooter. The number of complaints made against users of e-scooters has increased. In popular residential districts, e-scooters are being parked carelessly in 2023, obstructing walkways and occupying parking spaces, which has drawn complaints from several locals and drivers.
