Dubai authorities unveiled a new security plan for the world-famous fireworks on New Year’s Eve

A new security strategy for the internationally renowned fireworks that will be held in 32 sites on New Year's Eve has been presented by Dubai authorities. The city has been split into four sectors—North, Central, West, and Maritime—in order to better oversee the festivities, according to Dubai's Events Security Committee.

A total of 32 venues in Dubai and Hatta, including the Burj Khalifa, The Beach, Bluewaters (JBR), Palm Jumeirah and Kite Beach, Hatta, Global Village, Al Seef, Festival City, and others, will host fireworks displays, according to the Committee, which is made up of 55 government and commercial institutions.

Seamless supervision

The Dubai Police have announced that Sheikh Zayed Road will close at 9 p.m. and that roads surrounding Downtown and other well-known sites will begin to close from 4 p.m. While 230 buses will be sent out to enable passengers to get to their destinations more quickly, the Roads and Transport Authority said that Dubai Metro will operate for 40 hours on New Year's Eve. To guarantee the seamless supervision of the New Year's Eve 2024 celebrations, a total of 11,972 personnel—including 5,574 police officers—will be stationed across Dubai and Hatta. Additionally, 1,525 patrols, ambulances, and civil defence vehicles will be deployed.

Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services

On New Year's Eve, 46 events will take place around Dubai, where Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services will have 178 ambulances, four boats, 556 paramedics, and 35 supervisors on standby. Seven ambulances and sixteen paramedics will be stationed at Dubai Mall, and six ambulances and twelve paramedics each will be stationed at Palm Jumeirah, Burj Al Arab, JBR, Bluewaters, and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard (Burj Khalifa).

In addition, 18 ambulances, an operations centre, 18 emergency support tents, five first responder cars, six electric cycles, two ambulance buses and a field support unit have been allotted by the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services. 34 more ambulance stations have also been set aside in different locations such as Jebel Ali, Bur Dubai, rural regions, and Deira. In addition, five ambulances will be available for use during the Hatta Festival from December 15 to December 31 along with 12 paramedics and a field support team.

Executive and field teams deployed

In order to cover all of the celebration locations around the emirate, 2,700 executive and field teams will be sent out by Dubai Municipality. The following locations will receive special attention from the municipality teams: Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, Downtown Dubai, Dubai Mall, Burj Khalifa, Dubai Hills, Festival City, City Walk, Burj Al Arab, Burj Al Khor, Souk Al Bahar, Jumeirah Beach Residences (JBR), and Palm Jumeirah? The celebrations at the Global Village, Zabeel Park, Dubai Frame, and public beaches like Jumeirah (1, 2, 3), Umm Suqeim (1, 2), Al Sufouh, Jebel Ali, Al Shurooq, Al Mamzar Beach, and Corniche will also be under the teams' supervision. Not to mention the external roads that lead to the staging areas for different events.

In order to preserve Dubai's cleanliness and visual appeal, the civic authority will send out 2,281 sanitation personnel and 242 supervisors and monitors to keep celebration locations and surrounding areas clean. In addition to maintaining immaculate roadways and overseeing rubbish pickup, they will provide over 300 waste storage facilities in congested areas.

In addition to desert areas, Dubai Municipality has hired 630 private sector sanitation personnel for particular sites including industrial and residential neighbourhoods. More than five hundred volunteers from the general public will help them. The 63 inspectors and supervisors that make up the health and safety teams of the Dubai Municipality will conduct field visits to verify that crowd management plans, as well as the health and safety regulations for walkways, entrances, lifts, escalators, water systems, floors, indoor air quality and logistics arrangements like electrical extensions and safe storage, are being followed.

Across event venues, food facilities such as restaurants, motels, and shopping centres will be inspected by food safety teams consisting of 27 inspectors. The Dubai Municipality would assign a staff of seventy-five monitors and inspectors to oversee public parks, recreation areas, and fireworks locations. A team of 8 monitors and inspectors, in direct coordination with Dubai Police, will secure the emirate's beaches. Lifeguard services and security will be efficiently ensured, especially on night beaches, providing the highest levels of visitor safety. Dubai Civil Defence will deploy more than 947 firefighters across celebration sites.

Screens installed to view New Year festivities

It was disclosed that a number of screens will be installed so that workers can view the New Year's festivities by the Permanent Committee for Labour Affairs. These viewing spaces, which include six viewing screens and food services, will let people enjoy the fireworks and festivities safely while reducing city traffic.

The head of the Events Security Committee, Major General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi, assistant commandant for operational affairs at Dubai Police, stated that all 55 entities have been collaborating closely to guarantee the highest level of security and safety for those taking part in the celebrations.

In order to avoid traffic jams, he further advised the public to assist the police, obey traffic signals, and call Dubai Police at 999 in case of an emergency. He also mentioned that there would be a number of supply tents in Dubai's downtown area that will provide first aid, lost-and-found services, logistical support, aid for missing children, tourist assistance, and other services.
