Dubai authorities have introduced 14 AI-powered pedestrian crossings aiming to keep the roads safer

Dubai officials have installed 14 artificial intelligence-powered pedestrian crossings to make the city's roads safer.

Crossings in Dubai Silicon Oasis can trigger flashing warning signs and traffic signals for incoming cars when a pedestrian or bike uses them. The technology detects and tracks vehicles and other road users approaching the crossings, allowing drivers extra time to react and slow down if necessary. The AI is also linked to high-speed 5G internet, enabling more advanced traffic data collecting.

The DSO free zone spearheaded the idea in collaboration with Derq, a provider of artificial intelligence traffic technology.
