Dubai Airports expects record-breaking passenger traffic in 2024 paving path to join '100 million passengers club'

Due to the aviation industry's exponential growth in the post-Covid era, Dubai International (DXB) airport might join the '100 million passengers club' this year. A worldwide aviation analyst at CAPA - Centre for Aviation, a market research company for the travel and aviation industries, predicts that a number of cities will either rejoin or join the "100 million passengers club" in 2024.

Among the places named is Istanbul, which as of the week beginning December 18, 2023, has the biggest network of flights at a single airport in the world with a total of 298 direct routes at Istanbul Airport and an additional 125 at the Sabiha Gökçen Airport. Istanbul had already belonged to the 100 million passenger club.

Following the 2020 pandemic outbreak, which had a significant impact on passenger volume, Dubai Airport has been steadily expanding. Dubai Airports surpassed 2019 traffic in November when they increased their prediction for annual passenger traffic in 2023 to 86.8 million. According to Dubai Airports, record-breaking numbers are anticipated to persist in 2024 as well.

Currently handling 100 million passengers a year, DXB is extending and renovating its present infrastructure, bringing its capacity to 120 million. This is being accomplished by implementing cutting-edge technology.
