Drone delivery in Dubai to become a reality after the completion of first phase of Dubai Horizons

Drone delivery in Dubai is about to happen, as the first stage of arranging routes through low-altitude airspace and designating specific landing areas for drones was completed and announced on Wednesday. The first part of the project, named "Dubai Horizons," was finished in Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO) by the Dubai Municipality and Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA). There, privacy policies, low-altitude airspace planning, drone operations, and air navigation safety were evaluated.

The Year of Sustainability in 2023 was declared by the President of the United Arab Emirates as a national campaign to encourage citizens to embrace sustainable lifestyle choices on both a personal and communal level. A three-week BVLOS (beyond visual line of sight) study, which involves operating drones at distances beyond a (human) pilot's typical visible range, was also held by DSO last month. The demonstration displayed how various consumer items are transported inside DSO in a safe and secure manner.

The drones utilised in the testing demonstrated a variety of safety features, including parachute and collision avoidance, in addition to their unique networking and navigation systems.

The President of the United Arab Emirates declared 2023 to be the Year of Sustainability, a national campaign to encourage citizens to embrace sustainable lifestyle choices on both a personal and communal level.

The Dubai Municipality will make available digital geospatial twin databases of Dubai as part of the Dubai Horizons project. These databases will include three-dimensional maps of all the city's infrastructures and monuments. The municipality will also supply data on land categorization and regulatory list, planning standards, and sophisticated GIS technologies.

The Dubai Civil Aviation Authority's Mohammed Abdullah Ahli, the director general, emphasised Dubai's goal of becoming a worldwide centre for the drone business.

According to him, the goal of connecting locations and buildings across the emirate with makeshift runways and airports to establish an infrastructure for drone systems "will significantly strengthen Dubai's economy."

It is anticipated that drones would speed up parcel delivery. Residents of the UAE may soon have their courier items carried by drones as early as next year, according to a statement made early this week by Aramex and Dronamics, the first cargo drone airline in the world.
