Since the crescent Moon was visible on Friday night, Saudi Arabia has announced Saturday, March 1, to be the first day of Ramadan.
Muslims in the country were asked to observe the crescent on Friday, the 29th of Shaban, a crucial indicator of the Islamic lunar calendar, before the news was made. Based on the crescent's sighting, Islamic months can last either 29 or 30 days.
