Committee tasked with assessing the widespread damage in the April 16-17 was directed to prepare an integrated operational plan for the repair

The committee in charge of assessing the enormous damage caused by the UAE's April 16-17 floods has been mandated to develop an integrated operational plan for repairing the country's infrastructure, roads, houses, and dams. The committee has been given a week to complete a full report on the task. 

The UAE Cabinet, led by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, convened for the first time on Sunday to establish priorities and plans for assessing the condition of infrastructure, roads, and dams following the exceptional weather event.

Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, urged the committees to begin examining the damage caused by the country's heavy rains right now. The order followed the instructions of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai.

The meeting witnessed the establishment of four technical committees: one for roads and infrastructure, one for dwellings and properties, one for dams and water facilities, and one for energy and water. 

The Minister praised the quick response of field teams from various concerned entities, who worked around the clock to protect people's lives and property while also speeding up the recovery process, as service facilities such as roads, bridges, and dams were restored to operation in record time. 

The Minister stated that a team of specialists has been established to conduct a comprehensive research on the need to expand dams and rivers so that they are prepared for and able to contain future catastrophic weather occurrences.
