Bur Dubai and Dubai Islands will be connected with a major new bridge as RTA signs agreement with Nakheel

A significant new city bridge will connect Bur Dubai with the Dubai Islands. In order to build direct access points from Bur Dubai to the Dubai Islands project, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Nakheel entered into a contract.

The bridge has four lanes in each direction and a 1,425m span. On the Bur Dubai side, the project will include direct access and departure points through a bridge that spans the Creek between the Infinity Bridge and Port Rashid Development Project. The bridge has a total capacity of 16,000 cars per hour in both directions and is 1,425 metres long. It has four lanes in each direction.

It stands 15.5 metres above Dubai Creek's waters and has a 75-meter-wide canal that allows different kinds of ships to pass through. Two lifts will be placed at each ends of the bridge as part of the project to make it easier for walkers and bicycles to move about. One side of the bridge will have a designated lane for these users. Additionally, the proposal calls for the development of surface roads connecting the Dubai Islands' and Bur Dubai's opposing ends for a distance of around 2 km.

The project is scheduled to be finished in 2026. In order to raise the road entrances and exits to Dubai Islands at the intersection of Al Khaleej Street and Abu Bakar Al Siddique Road, RTA completed the construction of entrances and exits linking Dubai Islands from Deira in 2020.

Three bridges totaling 1.6 km had to be built, in order to complete the project,: a two-lane bridge in the north that ensures smooth traffic flow from Dubai Islands to Al Khaleej Street, a three-lane bridge in the south that ensures smooth traffic flow from Dubai Islands to Al Khaleej Street, and a two-lane bridge in the south that ensures smooth traffic flow from Al Khaleej Street to Dubai Islands.
