Arabic Dictionary for Environmental Terms unveiled by Arabic Language Youth Council at COP28

During the "Sustainability in Arab Culture" event, the Arabic Language Youth Council explored the idea of sustainability in Arab culture and launched the "Arabic Dictionary for Environmental Terms". Up until December 12, the event was a part of the COP28 conference, which the UAE was hosting.

The event opened with a video clip that demonstrated the historical foundations of environmental sustainability in Arab culture. It also highlighted the current interest in sustainability in several Arab countries, most notably the United Arab Emirates, which has spearheaded several sustainable projects and alternative energy initiatives.

A panel discussion facilitated by the council's younger members was part of the programme. They looked at how Arab culture has survived for thousands of years, emphasising the value of the familial ties that are fundamental to Arab culture. The idea of linguistic resilience, endangered languages listed by Unesco, and the link between biodiversity and linguistic variety were all discussed. It was also investigated how dialects are affected by climate change.

The "Arabic Dictionary for Environmental Terms," a joint project of the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre, the Abu Dhabi Environment Agency, and the Arabic Language Youth Council, was unveiled as the event's centrepiece. The purpose of this dictionary is to provide English and Arabic environmental terminology with a scientific and linguistic reference. The first chapter, which covers "Environmental Quality Terms," has been published. Work is still being done on the remaining chapters.
