ADNOC Distribution announced a key partnership with Emerge, to develop on-site solar power across its service station network

The leading gasoline distributor and retailer of convenience stores in the UAE, ADNOC Distribution, announced a significant agreement with Emerge, a joint venture between Masdar and EDF, to deploy on-site solar power across its network of service stations, starting in Dubai in 2023.

According to the contract, Emerge will offer ADNOC Distribution a complete turnkey solution. The installation of solar panels at new service stations in Dubai as well as the remodelling of existing ones falls under this category. It also covers financing, design, procurement, construction, operations, and maintenance.

Solar energy is only one of several decarbonization efforts made by ADNOC Distribution as part of its goal to lower its carbon intensity by 25% by 2030, which is in accordance with the company's larger sustainability plan.

The business is also dedicated to investigating other solar energy decarbonization potential at its other industrial locations throughout the emirates.

ADNOC Distribution also made history in January 2023 when it converted an existing $1.5 billion (Dh5.5 billion) term loan into a sustainability-linked one in collaboration with First Abu Dhabi Bank PJSC (FAB). This became ADNOC Distribution the first gasoline and convenience retailer in the UAE to use sustainable financing.

The company's dedication to fostering sustainable growth through cutting-edge new solutions is demonstrated by later efforts, such as the adoption of a sustainable energy mix for its fleet of cars and the introduction of reduced carbon intensity goods for its consumers.

As part of its larger sustainability plan, ADNOC Distribution has promised to investigate utilising biofuels to power its fleet of trucks in addition to installing solar panels to power service stations. It has also promised to extend its network of EV charging stations.

In order to expand and broaden its line of sustainable and ecologically friendly products and to better serve customers' changing needs, ADNOC Distribution introduced its Voyager Green Series range of lubricants in 2022. These lubricants are created entirely from base oils derived from plants.

E2GO, a newly announced joint venture by ADNOC Distribution and TAQA that would develop EV charging stations around the UAE, was unveiled in January 2023. In Abu Dhabi, where an estimated 70,000 EV charging points and up to $200 million CAPEX are needed to fulfil the rising demand by 2030, E2GO will play a crucial role in the delivery of EV charging infrastructure.
