AD Ports Group to see the installation of 48 Biohuts in Khalifa Port to restore and assist marine ecosystem

Forty eight Biohuts will be installed in Khalifa Port as part of a scientific cooperation framework agreement signed by AD Ports Group, a leading global facilitator of trade, logistics, and industry; CMA CGM Group, a global player in maritime, land, air, and logistics solutions; and Ecocean, an innovative company serving aquatic biodiversity.

The Biohut module is a submerged structure that offers a secure and nurturing environment for marine life to flourish. It was created to restore biodiversity and promote marine life in coastal and harbour environments.

In areas where marine life has been disturbed or harmed by human activity, the modules are especially made to serve as a haven and breeding ground for a range of marine species, including fish, crustaceans, and other marine life vital to the health of coastal ecosystems. Made of non-toxic, environmentally acceptable materials, Biohut modules are modular cages that provide a sturdy, safe framework for marine life while reducing environmental impact. These installations will be put in place at certain Khalifa Port locations where the marine ecosystem need restoration and assistance.

In Q1 2024, the Biohuts will be erected in the harbour at the future terminal of CMA CGM, which is presently undergoing development. This pilot programme will include a monitoring component and run for five years.
