NewsFrom Al Reem Island to Sheikh Zayed Road (Al Qurum), Umm Yafina Street in Abu Dhabi will have a new speed restriction starting on June 7.
The new speed limit signboards have been put up, according to an announcement made on Monday by the General Command of Abu Dhabi Police and the Integrated Transport Centre.
Authorities urged drivers to obey the new speed limits that will take effect from Wednesday, June 7, 2023 on Umm Yafina Street from Al Reem Island to Sheikh Zayed Street (Al Qurum) in both directions. Abu Dhabi Police did not specify in the social media post, though, if the speed limit had been raised or lowered.
The modifications were made in order to increase traffic safety. Authorities claim that lowering speed restrictions might enhance traffic safety and help reduce accidents. Drivers are reminded to drive safely and obey all traffic laws and regulations.
On Sweihan Road in Abu Dhabi, which runs from Al Falah Bridge to Abu Dhabi International Airport, the posted speed restriction has recently changed. Starting on June 4, the new speed limit was lowered from 140 kph to 120 kph.
On Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Road, Abu Dhabi also adopted a minimum speed limit of 120kmph; offenders would now face a Dh400 punishment. According to officials, the top speed limit on this key highway will be 140 kph, and the first and second lanes from the left must maintain a minimum speed of 120 kph.
There is no minimum speed requirement on the third lane, therefore slower cars will be permitted to use it. The police emphasised that the minimum speed restriction does not apply to big trucks, which should drive in the final lane on the road.
