Abu Dhabi standardises fare structures for all its public buses - both urban and suburban regions

The transportation administration of Abu Dhabi announced on Tuesday that all its public bus fares had been standardised. The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) has announced that the basic bus charge for both urban and suburban regions would henceforth be Dh2, plus 5 fils per km, with a trip maximum of Dh5.

According to the centre, this implies that a passenger does not have to pay the Dh2 basic fee more than once when he takes various buses to go to his final destination, whether it is from the city to the suburbs or back.

As per the ITC, the cost of the journey is determined by taking the passenger's boarding destination and dropping them off at their last destination. It is paid by using the 'Hafalat' smart card at the conclusion of the ride.

But there are three requirements attached to the "free change of buses":

  • The traveller has to switch buses within a fair amount of time.
  • The journey can only be finished with a maximum of three buses since the number of changes cannot be made more than twice.
  • The itinerary shouldn't be altered to go in the other direction.

To determine the fare, passengers must swipe their cards both before boarding and after getting off. At the conclusion of the ride, those who do not swipe their cards will be charged a maximum fee.
