Abu Dhabi Police reminded drivers of the strict rules to ensure the safety of students

The Abu Dhabi Police reminded motorists on Thursday of the stringent regulations in place to guarantee the security of the youngsters who board and disembark school buses every day.

The police urged drivers to always come to a complete stop as soon as the stop sign arm on a school bus swings open in a social media post.

According to the Abu Dhabi Police, vehicles must specifically stop five yards away from the school bus. Hazard lights must also be turned on until everyone can pass without incident.

Here are two more pointers:

Drivers in both directions should stop at least five yards away on single-lane roadways.

On two-way streets, the vehicle travelling in the same direction as the bus is required to stop at least five metres away.

The serious traffic violation of failing to stop when the sign is displayed carries a Dh1,000 fine and 10 black points.
