Abu Dhabi Police reminded drivers not to drive on hard shoulders except in emergency situations

The Abu Dhabi Police cautioned these drivers on Sunday not to drive on hard shoulders unless there is an emergency. The paved emergency lane or extra lane on the far right side of a road or highway in the United Arab Emirates is known as the "hard shoulder" or "road shoulder." They are marked out with strong yellow lines.

The law enforcement agency emphasized in a video clip that shoulders are set aside for law enforcement, ambulance services, and civil defense to access accident scenes, transport injured parties to medical facilities, and carry out similar emergency services. Except in emergency scenarios or as safe parking spaces in case of a car breakdown, they advised drivers not to use hard shoulders.

The Abu Dhabi Police said that using it in any other way would have delayed the arrival of help at accident scenes and other emergency circumstances, endangering people's lives and safety.

Drivers who pass on the shoulder face a Dh1,000 fine and six black points under Article 42 of the UAE Federal Traffic Law.
