In advance of the weekend festivities honouring the UAE National Day, the Abu Dhabi Police released traffic regulations on Friday. The relevant authorities have released a traffic alert and provided a list of recommended practises for drivers.
- Vehicles cannot have their colours altered by decorations, and they cannot be overloaded.
- It is forbidden to write offensive phrases on cars or put inappropriate stickers on them.
- Front and back licence plates must not be concealed or covered
- Passengers or pedestrians are prohibited from using spray of all types by motorists
- Drivers must not adapt reckless driving and stunts.
- Motorists must not obstruct traffic or block others' way and also rallies are completely prohibited.
- Covering the side window, front or real windshields of the vehicle with stickers or a front sunshade is illegal.
- Passengers must aways ensure that they are safely seated in the vehicle, and never be on to the trunk of a pickup truck, or atop a car.
- Drivers must reduce speeds near pedestrian crossings and also be careful especially near parks and tourist spots.
- Motorcycle users are advised to wear a helmet, protective clothing when driving. They must ensure the safety of the bike, headlights and tyres.
The Abu Dhabi Police state that careless driving carries a Dh2,000 fine in addition to 23 black points. Cars may be seized for a period of sixty days. Additionally, the authorities asked people not to exit by the window or sunroof. Also, the police issued a warning to drivers and passengers not to spray party spray on pedestrians. They also advised drivers not to hurl litter from their cars while operating a vehicle. Six black points and a Dh1,000 fine are possible outcomes of this.
