Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters has announced the organisation of the UAE Barakah Exercise 2023 to take place in October

The Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters has announced the organisation of the UAE Barakah Exercise 2023, which will take place in October, in partnership with several strategic partners. The exercise will be held on October 11th. The UAE Barakah Exercise, which is planned to be a biannual event in the future, will continue 36 hours continuously under the supervision of the National Emergency, Crisis, and Disaster Management Authority and seeks to ensure the preparedness of the UAE's nuclear and radiological emergency response ecosystem. The exercise has been planned in accordance with the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation's (FANR) Regulation for Emergency and Preparedness for Nuclear Facilities (FANR-REG-12).

According to the legislation, the operator must have a complete nuclear and radiological emergency response ecosystem in place, developed in consultation with key parties. The UAE Barakah Exercise 2023 was created in compliance with best worldwide practises in the realms of nuclear and radiological emergency response evaluation. The exercise involves realistic scenarios for various emergency situations at the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant and its surrounding regions in order to continue improving the preparation of quick reactions to emergency situations in conformity with the finest worldwide safety, security, and transparency standards.

The Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Health and Prevention, Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR), National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA), Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority (ADCDA), Abu Dhabi Crisis and Disaster Management Centre (ADCMC), Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC), Nawah Energy Company, and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) are among Abu Dhabi Police's strategic partners. The organisation of the UAE Barakah Exercise 2023, according to Hamad Al Kaabi, Director of the Hazardous Materials Incidents Department at NCEMA and Head of the Control and Evaluation Committee, aligns with ongoing successful efforts to raise the level of preparedness and proactive responses to nuclear incidents.
