The Abu Dhabi Police have issued a warning to motorists to stay in the designated lanes when driving slowly. When they do otherwise, they disrupt traffic, confuse other drivers, and result in major accidents. According to the authorities, failing to yield to cars originating from the rear or the overtaking lane would result in a Dh400 punishment. Police officers emphasise that drivers must drive carefully and refrain from passing on the right since this can result in serious collisions that inflict harm or even death.
In an effort to reduce traffic accidents, Abu Dhabi has set a minimum speed restriction of 120 kph in the fast lanes of a key route within the emirate. It should be emphasised that tailgating, or failing to maintain a sufficient space between cars, is also a violation that carries a Dh400 punishment for drivers. Actually, if a car is in the fast lane, Abu Dhabi's tailgating radars will detect it and penalise both the front and rear of the vehicle. But the car in the rear also receives four black points.
