Abu Dhabi issued regulations and penalties for leaving abandoned cars

The Department of Municipalities and Transport in Abudhabi announced new rules and fines for leaving abandoned cars in the emirate.

If car owners leave their vehicles in public areas in a way that detracts from the overall attractiveness, they will face severe penalties. This involves leaving their cars unclean.

Depending on how the infraction occurred, the authority can impose three different kinds of sanctions.

- The first infraction will result in a Dh500 punishment for the driver.

- They will be fined Dh1,000 if they commit the same infraction twice.

- A Dh2,000 punishment will be imposed by the authorities for committing the same infraction a third time.

The authorities also mentioned the consequences of leaving a vehicle's body or frame in a public area, which might result in a deformed public image, under Law No. 2 of 2012.

- For their first infraction, car owners will be fined Dh1,000.

- A Dh2,000 punishment will be imposed for a second infraction.

- Drivers will be fined Dh4,000 if they commit the same offense a third time.

In the past, the emirate's authorities have conducted campaigns and warned drivers who leave their cars unattended.

Residents of Dubai risk a Dh500 punishment if they leave their car parked in a public lot for an extended length of time without being washed. The responsibility of locating abandoned vehicles is specifically assigned to inspectors. When an automobile is found to be untidy, a notice is put on the windshield and the owner is given up to 15 days to clean the vehicle or risk having it seized by the police.
