Abu Dhabi International Airport will be renamed to Zayed International Airport, with the change to take effect from February 9, 2024

It was revealed on Tuesday that the airport in Abu Dhabi would henceforth be called Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Zayed International Airport is the new official name, as per the directions of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The Abu Dhabi Government Media Office said that the name change will go into effect on February 9, 2024, "coinciding with the official opening ceremony of the new Terminal A." Today, November 1, is the official opening day of the chic terminal.

Etihad Airways, on Tuesday, conducted a commercial trip to India, welcoming the first passengers to the new hub. 359 people were on board Flight EY224, which took off from Terminal A at 2:35 PM, heading from Abu Dhabi to New Delhi.

Airlines will undergo transition throughout the first two weeks, with all terminals (A, 1, 2, and 3) functioning concurrently. All airlines will only operate out of Terminal A as of November 14. Etihad will gradually move its flights to Terminal A starting on November 9. The airline will operate from Terminals A and 3 from November 9 to November 14. On November 14, the carrier will run all its flights out of the new hub starting at 11 a.m.

The Abu Dhabi Crown Prince, Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, visited the terminal on Tuesday. With a 742,000 square metre footprint, it can accommodate up to 45 million passengers annually. When Terminal A is completely operational, 28 airlines will use it to serve a global network of 117 destinations.
