Abu Dhabi Biobank was launched; regions largest hybrid cord blood bank being its first offering

The largest hybrid cord blood bank in the region is the first product offered by the recently established Abu Dhabi Biobank. Situated in Masdar City's Omics Centre of Excellence, M42, the biobank boasts the largest capacity large-capacity biobanking infrastructure and the most advanced automated technologies available.

Up to 100,000 cord blood samples and five million pan-human samples can be properly preserved at this facility, making it suitable for thirty years of medicinal and research use. The biobank will produce a varied dataset to supply hemopoietic stem cells that are more suitable and readily available worldwide.

The substance left in the umbilical cord following childbirth is called cord blood. Despite being largely thrown out, it contains a wealth of stem cells that can be used to treat a variety of conditions, including blood-related ailments, immune system deficits, genetic problems, and stem cell transplants.

The initiative, which made its announcement during Abu Dhabi Global Healthcare Week, intends to reduce treatment wait times, increase survival rates, and develop a broad, fundamental bio-asset that will facilitate the development of novel drug discovery targets, early disease detection and prevention strategies, treatments for uncommon diseases, and life science research for medical innovation. For everyone, it will aim to provide the best possible preventative, precise, individualized, and high-quality healthcare.

The project is a component of Abu Dhabi's goal to create a singular worldwide biobanking hub that provides priceless data assets with the greatest possible influence on people's health.
