Abu Dhabi declared on Tuesday that as of June 1, single-use Styrofoam items such as plates, cups, lids, drink containers, and food containers will no longer be allowed. The program supports the objectives of the Year of Sustainability and is an extension of the Abu Dhabi Single-Use Plastic Policy.
Reusable storage containers, coolers, and goods meant for medicinal purposes are exempt from the new regulation.
The Abu Dhabi Single-Use Plastic Policy was introduced in May 2020, and by June 1, 2022, single-use plastic bag sales will be entirely outlawed.
