A state-of-the-art RVM initiative has been unveiled by the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi and Adnoc Distribution

The reverse vending machines (RVM) are located at Adnoc stations and large stores, and they are part of a significant recycling programme whereby local authorities have developed an incentive-based scheme whereby community members will receive incentives for donating used plastic bottles.

A cutting-edge RVM effort has been announced by Adnoc Distribution and the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD). By the end of the next month, cutting-edge recycling devices will be implemented across the Adnoc Distribution network of retail stations. RVMs accept old plastic bottles and aluminium cans from the neighbourhood. Each machine provides users with an immediate update on the amount of RVM deposits made, enabling them to monitor their recycling efforts and compete for lucrative prizes.

Through its Recapp programme, the EAD has been collaborating with waste and water management company Veolia to place RVMs in strategic sites including shopping centres, universities, the Corniche, and other important locations. The programme is a part of EAD's "Mission to Zero" outreach effort, which aims to eliminate all plastic, waste, emissions, and harm to biodiversity.

People must download the 'Go Recapp' app and register to receive rewards. When customers arrive at an RVM, they may deposit their bottle or can and scan it to receive rewards. This recycling programme is a component of the EAD's effort, carried out in partnership with significant shops, to eradicate the use of single-use plastics in Abu Dhabi. The EAD has witnessed a 95% drop in the usage of plastic bags because to its single-use plastic policy. Carrefour, LuLu Hypermarket, Abu Dhabi Coops, Choithrams, Spinneys, Waitrose, and Spar are a few notable merchants who embrace this strategy.
