NewsDubai's authorities have announced the beginning of a trial program that would shorten participating government agencies' summertime working hours. Additionally, Friday work will not be conducted, as per the Dubai Government Human Resources Department (DGHR). Work hours at fifteen government agencies in Dubai will be cut to seven during the 'Our Flexible Summer' program, which runs from August 12 to September 30.
Two and a half day weekends are enjoyed by the majority of government employees in Dubai (Friday half day, Saturday and Sunday). Employees in participating government agencies will have extended weekends for seven weeks as a result of this project.
The DGHR stated that the pilot program intends to "enhance workplace flexibility," however it did not clarify which organisations will be included. It also guarantees a better work-life balance and provides workplace safety during the summer.
In order to determine if government entities would be open to reducing working hours during the summer, the department had undertaken a study. The program will assist in lowering energy usage in government agencies as well.
The DGHR will assess how the initiative affects workers and overall output. Research from the UAE and other countries has shown that less hours worked increase productivity.
Sharjah, which enjoys a three-day weekend, recently stated that because of its shortened workweek, its employees reported an 88% increase in production and a 90% increase in job satisfaction. Customers were likewise happy after the change, as seen by the 94% service satisfaction score.
The DGHR stated that in order to provide a final report that summarises the initiative's results, suggestions, and suitability for other government agencies, it will also "regularly assess" the input it has received.
