A new first-of-its-kind facility to recover recyclable materials from municipal solid waste will be developed in Abu Dhabi

In Abu Dhabi, a brand-new, innovative plant will be built to collect recyclable materials from municipal solid garbage. Within the Al Mafraq industrial area will be Tadweer Group's greenfield Material Recovery Facility (MRF), which is planned to have an annual capacity of 1.3 million metric tons. With a planned total size of over 90,000 square meters, it will rank among the biggest MRFs in the area.

Gathering municipal trash and recovering recyclables, including metals, plastics, and other materials, is the main goal. Through recycling and feedstock preparation, it will optimize the diversion of trash from landfills for the Abu Dhabi trash to Energy project.

With more recycling made possible, a circular economy will be encouraged, and the group's goal of diverting 80% of Abu Dhabi's garbage from landfills by 2030 will be supported.

The MRF will be built as a component of the company's circular cluster, which consists of a number of facilities designed to promote the circular economy and guarantee that as little garbage as possible ends up in landfills. Providing feedstock for various waste conversion processes and products, such as trash to sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), is one of the facility's long-term goals.
