A minimal speed limit of 120 kph to be enforced in Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Road

Beginning in April, Abu Dhabi will enforce a minimal speed limit of 120 kph on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Road; violators will be subject to a Dh400 fine beginning on May 1.

The Abu Dhabi Police stated that the maximum speed limit on this major highway will be 140 kph, and the first and second lanes from the left must maintain a minimum speed of 120 kph.

There is no minimal speed requirement in the third lane, so slower vehicles will be permitted to use it. The officers emphasised that the minimum speed restriction does not apply to heavy vehicles, which should drive in the last lane of the road.

When the regulation goes into force in April, those who are found driving less than 120 kph on the designated lanes will receive warning notices. A Dh400 fine will then take effect on May 1 according to the officials.

The head of the Central Operations Sector, Maj-Gen Ahmed Saif bin Zaytoun Al Muhairi, urged motorists to obey the law.

The goal of implementing the minimum speed is to increase traffic safety. It will prompt slow-moving cars to use the proper lanes, he claimed.

Additionally, the officer urged drivers to keep a safe distance from other cars and to always check that the roads are free before changing lanes.
