A unique football competition for inmates serving their terms in the emirate has been announced by Dubai. The bouts, which take place at Al Awir Prison from April 7 to May 31, will feature 14 teams competing in a six-player format. In the meanwhile, the teams have begun their physical training and practice sessions within the prisons.
These games, which inmates in prisons and correctional facilities will play, are being organised by the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) in cooperation with the Dubai Police.
The Dubai Police and the DSC have been working together in recent years. This has included setting aside spaces for sports in prisons and correctional facilities as well as supplying sporting goods.
Additionally, as part of the "Sports Inmates Programme," which the Dubai Sports Council and Dubai Police launched in 2017, efforts have been made to train instructors from these institutions to coach prisoners.
