19th edition of the Liwa Date Festival commences today

The 19th edition of the Liwa Date Festival will take place tomorrow in Liwa, Al Dhafra Region, and will be presided over by Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice-President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of the Presidential Court. The event, according to Major-General Faris Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Commander-in-Chief of the Abu Dhabi Police (ADP) and Chairman of the Cultural Programmes and Legacy Festivals Committee - Abu Dhabi, commemorates the season of harvesting palm dates in the UAE, which is regarded an original Emirati legacy. The current session takes place during the Year of Sustainability. This year's version also represents the President's instruction to encourage sustainable farming practises and historical preservation, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Al Mazrouei further stated that the celebration is a continuation of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's commitment to promoting the agricultural sector and respect to the historical position of the palm tree, which is intimately tied to real Emirati history. He praised Sheikh Mansour's attention for the celebration, which he said helped to make agriculture a culture among members of society, leading to food security and sustained agricultural output. He also thanked Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region, for his unwavering support and constant orders to enhance our events and create meaningful activities and contests.
