The "1 Billion Meals Endowment" campaign, started by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, coinciding with the holy month of Ramadan, has received a Dh20 million donation from the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa). The campaign aims to establish the largest Ramadan sustainable food aid endowment fund.
Dewa's donation is a part of a broad reaction to the campaign, as people, organizations, and companies have been rushing to make donations in support of the campaign's goal of battling hunger and malnutrition all over the world since the first day of Ramadan.
"Dewa is honoured to be a key supporter of the "1 Billion Meals Endowment" campaign, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, whose efforts in this regard made charity and humanitarian work into a lifestyle in the UAE, making our country a role model for giving and solidarity," said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dewa.
As part of its dedication to social responsibility and to making the world a better place to live, Dewa is eager to actively engage in the "1 Billion Meals Endowment" campaign. We also support the campaign's goal of fighting hunger, which is a major obstacle to reaching the UN Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. He continued, "We also support the campaign's goal of providing a food safety net and food aid to those who need it without discrimination.
The "1 Billion Meals Endowment" initiative seeks to assist vulnerable groups, such as victims of natural disasters and crises, as well as to provide a food safety net for the world's most underprivileged populations in nations that struggle with food insecurity. In line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals for 2030, which prominently include the battle against hunger, it also strengthens the UAE's position in the global effort to end hunger.
The "1 Billion Meals Endowment" campaign embodies the UAE's dedication to playing a humanitarian role in every disaster and serves as a real-world illustration of the values of kindness and giving that its citizens uphold.
